Floral Design with Full Bloom by Lauren
I love how flowers instantly elevate a space, so I buy them regularly and spread them all throughout my home. The only problem was that I didn’t know a thing about arranging flowers, so I was just cutting them at an angle, adding the packet of flower food with water, and stuffing them all into a vase.
Well, that’s not the case anymore, because I learned so much about arrangements at the Full Bloom by Lauren class hosted at the Drawbar in the Bellyard Hotel.
Sourcing Flowers
Lauren taught the class about what to look for when shopping for flowers, how to tell if they’re fresh, and what to consider buying to ensure you have an arrangement that really sings.
We also learned both common names and scientific names of flowers that we may see in stores right now. When Lauren described this flower as Amaranthus, I immediately recognized it beyond its ornamental use. Amaranths are also grown for their leaves and their seeds (considered an ancient grain even though it’s a seed).
Kinda cool!
ARRANGEMENT CONSIDERATIONS
Who knew you could make such a full arrangement in a small vessel. Now I know I was starting my arrangements (if you could even call them that) in vessels that were way too small.
I remember when flower arrangements used to have a lot a foam at the bottom. However with Full Bloom, we used chicken wire as our mechanics for the arrangement. Who knew?!
We also learned about balance, height, movement, negative space, and employing a variety of flower types together for your desired outcome. There was so much info packed into the 1.5 hour class.
10/10 Would Attend Again
Overall, I really enjoyed the class and can’t wait to put my knowledge into action over the holidays!
