I’m a presenting at ScienceWriters2024 in Raleigh, NC.
Our workshop is titled “Honing Your Podcast Superpowers: For Beginners and Seasoned Producers”
Audio is a powerful medium for science storytelling–podcasts are approachable and intimate, bringing your words directly to your audience’s ears and transporting them somewhere new. But how do you start a podcast as a science communicator, and, more critically, how do you build momentum, listenership and funding sufficient to sustain it? Featuring panelists from Gastropod, Dope Labs and NASA’s Curious Universe, this interactive workshop will take you through the steps to supercharge your audio strategy and answer all your burning questions about running a successful science podcast–whether you’re a communicator for a government institution or university interested in launching a show or a freelance journalist looking for a new funding model for your long-running pod. Plus, you’ll have a chance to brainstorm, discuss and pitch your own show ideas or existing podcasts to the community. In a troubled journalism industry, this is our science podcast peer support session.
Speakers: Cynthia Graber (Gastropod), Katie Konans (NASA), and Christian Elliott (NASA)
Science writers will gather in North Carolina's Research Triangle this November, marking the first time the joint science writers' conference returns to the site of a previous ScienceWriters meeting. The weekend of in-person professional development, career networking, and science events will take place at the Raleigh Convention Center and Raleigh Marriott City Center Nov. 8-11, organized by the National Association of Science Writers (NASW) and the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing (CASW), with generous contributions of on- and off-site events and volunteer support from the Science Communicators of North Carolina (SCONC).
